The NFL draft is an unwieldy and occasionally overwrought thing. The crowd in Nashville for the first night of the draft is a testament to what a production it’s become. In the middle of all the bright lights and motor cliches there are occasional moments of genuine joy that shine through, though. Seeing prospects get the call from their teams and the emotions that go with it is one of our favorite parts of the draft.
Watch former Washington offensive tackle Kaleb McGary get the call from the Falcons when they picked him at No. 31 overall on Thursday night.
McGary and his family have gone through a lot on their journey. Regardless of what you think of the pick or how he’ll play in the NFL, it’s great to see a lifetime of hard work being validated like this.
Atlanta has clearly made improving its offensive line the first, second and third priorities this offseason. If all goes well, McGary will serve as the franchise’s starting right tackle for at least the next five years.
