Beyonce and Jay-Z attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday as guests of Golden State Warriors majority owner Joe Lacob and his wife, Nicole Curran.
The women were seated side-by-side courtside, with their husbands seated on their outside, and when Curran leaned over Beyonce to communicate more closely with Jay-Z, Queen Bey’s visible reaction went viral.
On Curran’s Instagram account, members of Beyonce’s Beyhive fan club went wild in the comment section forcing her to disable her account.
ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne spoke with Curran on Thursday and got the account of what the scrutinized interaction (which earned the woman death threats, she said) was actually about. Curran said that she’d invited the couple to a few previous games at Oracle Arena and once they finally accepted the invite, she wanted to play the hostess role right.
Curran was getting Beyonce and Jay-Z’s drink orders — Bey asked for water, Jay asked for a vodka soda. The hostess said she leaned in close in order to hear Jay-Z’s response to whether or not he wanted a lime with his drink because the noise of the Warriors’ home crowd drowned out his answer initially.
