Watch: Viv Richards charges on the field in celebration as Mohammad Wasim's last-ball six sends Quetta Gladiators to PSL playoffs

NEW DELHI: Quetta Gladiators clinched the final spot in the Playoffs of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with a heart-stopping last-ball six to seal a sensational six-wicket victory over Lahore Qalandars at Karachi's National Stadium.

Facing a target of 167 for victory, the equation boiled down to four runs needed off the final delivery with Mohammad Wasim Jr. on strike. With the left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi entrusted to deliver the crucial ball, anticipation reached its peak among fans and players alike.

To the astonishment of many, Shaheen Afridi missed his mark, delivering a full toss, and Wasim Jr. seized the opportunity, unleashing a mighty swing of the bat to launch the ball into the stands, sparking jubilant scenes in the Gladiators' camp.

Even the legendary Viv Richards couldn't contain his excitement, joining in the celebrations on the field, epitomizing the euphoria that engulfed the team.

Richards' involvement with the Gladiators dates back to 2016, and his elation on this occasion was a rare sight, considering doubts over his participation ahead of the 2023 season. However, his presence has undoubtedly added value to the franchise, with his exuberance mirroring the team's spirit on the field.

WATCH:

With this thrilling victory, Quetta Gladiators became the fourth and final team to secure a spot in the Playoffs, joining Multan Sultans, Islamabad United, and Peshawar Zalmi. Meanwhile, Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars bid farewell to the tournament after being eliminated.
