Scotland is eliminated from the World Cup after falling to last place in Group D following a 3-3 tie with Argentina on Wednesday.
Scotland took a 3-0 lead before Argentina pushed back to make it a game. Scotland goalkeeper Lee Alexander made a clutch save on a penalty kick in stoppage time, holding off the tie. But then an official stepped in and changed the fate of the game and of team Scotland.
The Video Assistant Referee determined that Alexander came off her line and gave her a yellow card for the penalty. With another PK, Argentina tied the game and the result dropped Scotland from the World Cup in the group stages.
The VAR interference is particularly controversial as this exact application enabled France to beat Nigeria earlier this week.
