Alex Morgan turned 30 on Tuesday and celebrated by helping the U.S. women’s national team advance past England and into the World Cup final, winning 2-1.
England made the late minutes of the semifinal tense, but failed to tie the game for a second time as Morgan’s goal in the 31st minute turned out to be the game-winner.
As is becoming tradition this summer, it was Morgan’s goal celebration that captivated anyone watching the game. After becoming the first player in FIFAWWC history to score a goal on her birthday, Morgan mimed sipping tea in a nod to the opponent — pinky out and all.
The best part about the celebration, no doubt, is the double entendre of throwing shade using an action which is slang for… throwing shade (oh, and the fact that the U.S. is moving on, that’s the other best part).
