WATCH: USWNT opens World Cup with 13-0 win over Thailand

The U.S. women’s national team began its quest for a record fourth World Cup by opening play with a dominant and record-setting 13-0 win over Thailand on Tuesday.

The top-ranked Americans downed the 34th-ranked opponent in a way that caused some to say the team should’ve taken its foot off the gas, but the defending World Cup champions did no such thing.

Alex Morgan scored a team-high five goals in the rout as the USWNT proved a point. Sure, host-France broke the 28-game win streak for the United States early in 2019 and then began its World Cup play with a 4-0 win.

But the USWNT would not be outdone. Next up for the United States is Chile in Paris on Sunday.
