Wide open or not, Damarea Crockett will bull his way into consideration for one of the Houston Texans’ running back jobs.
The undrafted free agent from Missouri took a 1-yard hand-off Thursday night at the Green Bay Packers in the preseason opener and scored to help the Texans even the score 7-7 after a Ka’imi Fairbairn extra point.
Even with the waiving of running back D’Onta Foreman on Aug. 4, the Texans still have a crowded running back room with Crockett, fellow undrafted free agent Karan Higdon, and veterans Buddy Howell, Josh Ferguson, and Taiwan Jones.
While preseason work helps, ultimately, for Crockett to make the final roster, it is going to be up to how well he contributes on special teams. Nonetheless, highlights like these demonstrate he has the potential to play at a higher level.
