WATCH: Tom Brady weighs in on Andrew Luck’s retirement

There is no shortage of (good and bad) opinions on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck’s retirement. The 29-year-old’s surprise exit from the NFL is drawing feedback from every direction.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was naturally asked about the decision on his Monday morning interview with Boston radio station WEEI (Brady has a scheduled weekly interview on the “The Greg Hill Show”).

“It is his life. Everyone has the right to choose what they want to do. He had a great career and he was a great player,” Brady said. “Everybody wishes they could be healthy all the time. It is a contact sport and he’s certainly had his fair share of injuries, so guys retire at different times. Some at the end of the season, and I have seen a lot of guys retire before the season gets going and this is just one of those examples.”

The 42-year-old’s perspective on the young retirement eludes to the reality of the battle with injuries the former first overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft has endured. Luck played through a serious shoulder injury during the 2016 season, then underwent surgery ahead of the 2017 season. Post-op rehab caused Luck to miss the entire 2017 season, he was then voted the NFL Comeback Player of the Year and earned his fourth Pro Bowl honors in 2018.
