Watch this year's Asda Christmas advert directed by three-time Dancing on Ice winner

The Halloween pumpkins may have only just disappeared, but retailers are wasting no time getting ready for Christmas.

John Lewis has already unveiled its always highly-anticipated Christmas advert, and now one of the country's biggest supermarkets has done the same.

Asda has released its Christmas TV advert for 2021 - taking shoppers on an adventure on ice.

Set to the Bolero - the ice dancing classic made world-famous by Torvill and Dean’s 1984 Winter Olympics routine - the 60-second ad follows a family gliding through a series of magical Christmas moments before reaching the big day itself.

Asda's Christmas advert was choreographed by Daniel Whiston, three-time Dancing on Ice winner (Asda)

Beginning with a family trip to the supermarket, the advert also features a school Christmas play and an office party, as Asda says it is focusing on the moments we all missed out on in 2020 due to Covid restrictions.

Meghan Farren, chief customer officer at Asda, said: “This year our Christmas campaign is about celebrating all the moments that make Christmas special, and showcasing the amazing quality and range of products our customers can enjoy throughout the festive season.

"We didn’t just miss the opportunity to enjoy Christmas dinner together last year – we missed the school plays and the work nights out. This year we want to help our customers make every moment spectacular.

"‘Asda on Ice’ takes everyday moments and turns them into a beautiful performance – and that is just the kind of magic we want to bring our customers this year.”

The advert was choreographed by Daniel Whiston, three-time Dancing on Ice winner and its current associate creative director.

'Asda on Ice' will premiere at 8.15pm on Friday (November 5) on ITV.
