For the first time in franchise history, the Washington Nationals are World Series champions. Max Scherzer delivered a heroic start days after receiving a cortisone shot, and the Nationals’ offense woke up in the seventh inning with two clutch home runs to come from behind and take a lead their bullpen wouldn’t let go.
Washington added two runs in the top of the ninth to blow open the game, and Daniel Hudson pitched a perfect ninth inning to close Game 7. Michael Brantley was the Astros’ last hope, but he struck out on an 87 mph slider to end the game.
