Watch the throwaway Warren Gatland comment that sparked Eddie Jones' brutal put down of Wales coach

It doesn't take much for Eddie Jones to bite.

In a press conference today he took a big swipe at Warren Gatland, asking the assembled press to deliver a message to the Wales coach.

Jones said: "Well, guys, can you just send my best wishes to Warren to make sure he enjoys the third and fourth place play-off.”

So what was it that sparked it all?

Following yesterdays heartbreaking defeat to South Africa, Gatland was full praise for England before given an honest appraisal of how he thought the final might turn out.

He said: "They (South Africa) have the physicality to match England. I thought England were outstanding last night. They have a very good chance."

Gatland then added: "They might need to be a bit more expansive. For them it was about making the final. Sometimes teams play in semi-finals and don't always turn up for a final so it will be interesting to see England next week."

And that final sentence is what has riled Jones, leading to him publicly kicking Gatland and Wales when they are down.

The Wales squad were naturally devastated after Sunday's 19-16 defeat to the Springboks, with these pictures capturing the tears and despair.
