Watch the superb £100k Alvis speeding its way to auction

THIS stunning and incredibly rare pre-war Alvis is coming up for grabs in an online auction later this month.

A supercar of its day, the 1934 Speed 20 SB Vanden Plas Two-Door Saloon is one of just eight survivors globally from the 36 originally made. Estimated to fetch between £80,000 and £100,000 at the H&H Classics sale on May 27, it is likely to attract a lot of interest.

For many enthusiasts, the Two-Door “Flatback” Saloon design that Charles Follett (a renowned motor trader and member of the Brooklands set) commissioned from Vanden Plas to adorn the Speed 20 SB chassis is the most beautiful enclosed coachwork ever fitted to an Alvis frame.

It is regarded as a great example of the “airline” styling trend that was all the rage on both sides of the Atlantic during the mid-1930s.

Originally registered in London in January 1934, this Speed 20 SB was sold to a collector in New Zealand in 1972. It then underwent an extensive restoration over two decades and has had further refurbishment in the last few years.

In fact, the current owner has told H&H Classics: “The Alvis starts and runs very well and I have no hesitation in driving it anywhere.” Go to www.handh.co.uk to find out more about this beauty and other vehicles for sale in the online auction.
