Watch the new Bentley Flying Spur V8

LUXURY car maker Bentley is launching a V8 version of its Flying Spur to meet customer demands to drive themselves rather than sit behind a chauffeur.

The iconic British marque says the V8 alternative to the existing W12 offers a more driver-centric experience, with increased agility and a more characterful engine note.

That’s partly because it is 100kg lighter – which also helps to make it up to 16 per cent more fuel efficient, cutting both CO2 emissions and trips to the petrol station.

But the grand tourer is no slouch. The 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged petrol unit develops 542bhp, hits 60mph in precisely four seconds and tops out at a blistering 198mph.

The car also features Bentley’s latest hi-tech powertrain, chassis and engine cylinder-shutting technology to aid both driver engagement and economy.

Standard exterior features of the new V8 model include 20in, 10-spoke, painted alloy wheels, a V8 wing badge and quad exhaust pipes.

The plush interior also offers the brand’s innovative central rotating display. It can be switched between a 12.3in customisable touchscreen, three analogue dials or a seamless veneer.

Back seat drivers haven’t been forgotten, either, with a remote control for rear comfort features and the potential for hi-tech tablets, a drinks fridge and electric picnic tables.

With prices still to be announced, it can be ordered now and first customer deliveries are expected before the end of the year.
