Watch the new Aston Martin Vantage AMR

THE Aston Martin Vantage has just become even more exciting – if it’s possible – with the introduction of a motorsport-inspired manual gearbox for the “ultimate driving experience”.

The Vantage AMR’s seven-speed transmission, developed by Graziano, features a dog-leg first gear, with the most frequently used used second to seventh gears in the traditional double H configuration.

The newcomer from the British marque uses a limited-slip differential “to ensure a more rewarding and engaging experience” and is mated to the same alloy 510PS 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that you’ll find in the standard eight-speed auto model.

This powertrain propels the AMR to 62mph in just 4.0 seconds and on to a top speed of 195mph. The manual set-up also features a driver-selectable system called AMSHIFT that uses clever engineering and technology to mimic the act of blipping the throttle while braking and changing gear.

Removing the automatic transmission and fitting carbon ceramic brakes makes the car 95kg lighter and the AMR’s agility is further enhanced by Aston Martin’s latest adaptive damping system and Sport, Sport+ and Track driving modes.

On sale now and priced from £149,995 in five designer specifications, just 200 AMRs will be built – with the final 59 crafted in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Aston Martin’s Le Mans victory with the DBR1.

These Vantage 59 models, priced at £164,995, feature a Stirling Green and Lime paintjob and a leather and Alcantara interior with an AMR lime stripe and stitching.

Aston Martin boss Andy Palmer said: “The Vantage AMR sets us apart from our competitors in continuing to offer a three-pedal option. We have created a thoroughly modern sports car that rewards effort and focus from the driver – the antidote to driving a computer game.”
