WATCH: The moment Kellie Harrington's friends and family on Portland Row find out she's won Olympic Gold

This is the moment when Kellie Harrington's friends and family on Portland Row knew that history had been made - she was an Olympic gold medallist.

Harrington dominated the final two rounds to be declared lightweight gold medallist with a unanimous decision victory over current world champion Beatriz Ferreira of Brazil.

The 31-year-old from the north inner city had surrendered her world title to the Brazilian in 2019 after failing to overcome injury ahead of the tournament in Siberia.

So this was the first time the two world champions had come up against one another in the right, and it was an explosive contest from the off.

The powerful Ferreira took a 3-2 lead on the cards after round one, but Harrington won rounds two and three 5-0 to take a unanimous victory (read the full report here ).

A big screen had been set up just around the corner from Harrington's family home on Portland Row, just off the North Circular Road, with residents sharing in the excitement.

And there was no containing the crowd in the final three minutes as it became increasingly clear that Kellie had done enough to earn the gold medal.

Nerves turned to elation as the verdict was confirmed as 'unanimous' - meaning Harrington must be the champion having already taken two judges' cards in the opening rounds.

That was confirmed moments later as the champion was announced "in the red corner" and spontaneous chants of "Olé, olé, olé" rang out from behind the sea of tricolours.

The crowd then proceeded on foot to the door of the Harrington home where mother Yvonne, father Christy and brothers Joel and Chris celebrated with friends.
