The pooch had been partially hidden by the long grass on the banks of the canal on the morning of Sunday October 10.

Along with some others, Jason was able to rescue it by leaning down and pulling it out of the water by the scruff of its neck.

An eyewitness told Glasgow Live : "We were just walking along the canal and saw a couple shouting across the water.

"One of the guys was already trying to rescue the dog, but Jason ran round to help and he was the one that managed to rescue the dog."

However, they were unable to locate the animal's owners.

The eyewitness added: "We think the dog may have fallen from one of the canal boats.

"Unfortunately the dog ran off and we didn’t get to find out who the owners were but would have loved to find out."
