BMW has launched its most potent production car ever – the limited-run special edition M5 CS.
The 635hp 4.4-litre V8 engine powers the saloon to 62mph in a supercar-like 3.0 seconds and on to a blistering electronically limited top speed of 189mph.
And the 10hp boost the four-wheel-drive beast has over its M5 Competition sibling means it hits 124mph in just 10.4 seconds.
But the renowned German marque is keen to point out that the four-seater saloon’s exceptional track performance is matched by its luxury and everyday usability.
Priced from £140,780 on the road, deliveries of the M5 CS will begin in the spring. For their money, owners get a machine that has been enhanced through numerous engineering and design tweaks.
The driver is able to tailor the car’s set-up to suit the conditions and their personal preferences, including the ability to opt for pure rear-wheel-drive fun.
Extensive use of carbon-fibre parts not only means it looks the business but helps the M5 CS to achieve a 70kg weight loss over the Competition model.
Gold Bronze accents add exclusivity to the CS exterior and feature on 20in Y-spoke design forged wheels, while the L-shaped side lamps get a distinctive yellow tint.
The sporty interior has four individual M Carbon bucket seats clad in black Merino leather with red stitching and Nurburgring circuit imprints on the headrests.
There’s also an Alcantara steering wheel and headliner alongside plenty of other racing-led design cues.
Hi-tech kit includes a 12.3in central display matched by a 12.3in instrument cluster, a head-up display and BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant infotainment system.
