Watch the magical moment hundreds of dolphins dance on waves off coast of West Cork

This is the magical moment hundreds of dolphins danced on the waves of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of West Cork.

The huge school of dolphins were spotted flying in every direction as spectators watched on in amazement from a passing boat, CorkBeo.ie reports.

They were seen leaping up and down from the water edge as people can be heard gasping in the background as they watch on.

The video, taken by Sophie Lawlor off Courtmacsherry last week, shows a very unusual scene according to Atlantic Whale and Wildlife Tours who said the schools would usually follow their boats as it makes its way out.

They said the group were "probably hunting" and said: "This is magic.

The school of dolphins put on a spectacular show as the boat passed by (Sophie Lawlor)

"Hundreds of common dolphins in a big hurry somewhere. Probably on the hunt. It's unusual for common dolphins to completely ignore our boat.

"They usually begin bow riding. But these animals seem to have bigger fish to fry.

"Thank you so much to @sophiealawlor for capturing this footage in Courtmacsherry bay last week and sharing it with us."

The video was posted online with one amazed viewer saying: "A dolphin stampede! Great footage."

Another added: "Wow, why go to Dingle to see one dolphin when you can see so many of them here. Amazing experience."
