At the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, Gustave Courbet's monumental work, "A Burial at Ornans" is undergoing a full restoration, live and before the watchful eye of the public.
A decade after restoring "The Painter's Studio" under similar conditions, the museum has once again invited visitors to witness the painstaking process.
Behind glass, a team of seven restorers meticulously clean aged varnish, adjust structural seams, and aim to revive the painting’s original tones.
Set to be finished in mid-2026, the project allows art lovers to return, observe changes, and appreciate the craftsmanship behind conservation.
