Watch the Lagonda M45 Rapide Tourer set to sell for £190k

THIS stunning Lagonda is set to be the star of the show at a classic car auction later this month – and rightly so.

The M45 Rapide Tourer, dating from 1934, is a real rarity and expected to fetch as much as £190,000.

It will be up for grabs with H&H Classics at the auctioneer’s first sale with a live audience in six months at its base in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, on October 14.

The 100mph flying machine, powered by a 4.5-litre straight-six engine mated to a four-speed gearbox, has an impeccable history, having previously been owned by Lagonda Club chairman John Sword.

At its launch in 1933, the M45 was critically acclaimed for its “brilliant acceleration and sheer performance” as well as being “delightfully silent and easy running”.

The model also proved itself to be one of the best British sporting cars of its era, achieving notable success in international competition.

This particular Rapide was rebodied as a lightweight Tourer by the early 70s and has been meticulously cared for and upgraded as required over more recent years.

Damian Jones, of H&H Classics, said: “For many, this is the ultimate sporting Lagonda. As one of just 53 ever made, it is a highly collectable classic.”
