Watch the huge rooftop rave in Ancoats that had isolated residents dancing on balconies

The pubs are shut, the clubs are empty, the bars are deserted - but thanks to one local DJ, Ancoats was louder than ever on Saturday night.

Located safely on a private balcony in the heart of the neighbourhood, DJ Coast2Coast performed a lively DJ set for residents stuck inside during the coronavirus lockdown.

Locals could be seen dancing at windows and on their balconies during the performance, which included smoke machines and lights.

It's a fitting way to tackle lockdown entertainment for a city famed for its nightlife and music.

In Italy and Spain, locals have been pulling out instruments and playing music together - here in Manchester, it's a set of decks and the loudest possible speakers.

A mixture of club classics and power anthems were blasted out during the Saturday night party, including Whitney Houston's I'm Every Woman, Black Eyed Peas' I Gotta Feeling, and Fatboy Slim's Right Here, Right Now.

Social media - particularly Instagram - was awash with people posting different views of the set, which took place on the rooftop of the McConnell building in the Royal Mills development.

The whole event was organised and live streamed by AncoatsPlus - you can still watch the full stream here.

Its event poster urged people to 'stay indoors, stay happy, still party' for the balcony boogie.

Locals praised the event, describing it on Twitter as 'brilliant'.

Artist Mancsy tweeted: "You have to love Manc spirit. Ancoats was rocking in its isolation last night. Nice one."

Another user posted: "When all this is over, let's keep the positive developments".
