THIS is the very exclusive and mind-bogglingly fast Hennessey Venom F5.
It’s powered by a purpose-built 6.6-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, nicknamed Fury, that develops 1817hp – making it the world’s most powerful road car.
The American hypercar also has a bespoke carbon-fibre monocoque chassis, carbon-fibre body panels and a dry weight of just 1360kg.
What all that means is that the rear-wheel-drive machine can sprint to 62mph in just 2.6 seconds and hit 124mph in a lightning 4.7 seconds.
The F5 – named after the highest category of the Fujita tornado rating scale (with wind speeds of up to 318mph) – also has a targeted top speed in excess of 311mph.
Hennessey says it is “a decathlete of road cars, engineered to deliver the ultimate, exhilarating driving experience”.
And the driving dynamics have been honed by renowned US racing veteran and engineer John Heinricy, who is also a former director of the GM Performance Division.
Open the butterfly doors and you’ll find a driver-focussed cockpit with F1/fighter jet-inspired steering wheel and controls.
The luxurious handcrafted two-seat interior uses leather from the Glasgow-based Muirhead tannery and has a bang-up-to-date nine-inch screen infotainment system.
Limited to a global production run of just 24 units, the F5 also has a fairly exclusive price tag – starting at about £1.55million, excluding tax and shipping costs.
Customer deliveries of each bespoke machine will start next year – the company’s 30th anniversary. Boss John Hennessey said: “The Venom F5 is about more than just speed and power.
