To say that former Ohio State basketball player Greg Oden’s NBA career didn’t go as planned would be more of an understatement than pointing out Ohio State’s domination of Michigan in football since the Tressel years.
Though it wasn’t his fault, injuries derailed the 2007 NBA Draft’s No. 1 overall pick — and despite several attempts at a comeback — his knees would never fully cooperate.
As a result, Oden eventually realized the NBA would never be in the cards, picked up the phone and came back around the Ohio State program under Thad Matta.
Bleacher Report did a fabulous video story on Oden and shared it Thursday. It’s worth a watch and provides some good insight into the trials and tribulations, turning points, and ultimate path to redemption that the former Buckeye big man has been on.
Oden will graduate this May, went through a senior day of his own this year at Ohio State and will now try and work his way down a coaching path. Nobody can ever question the heart and kindness Oden displays, and we can only wish him well.
