Watch the emotional moment Kate Garraway and husband Derek serenaded by Elton John

Elton John recently serenaded Kate Garraway and her husband Derek Draper as the couple enjoyed a night out at his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

The hitmaker, 76, is said to be hanging up his touring boots once again as he plans to focus more on his life away from the stage including his marriage and two children.

But while Derek has remained largely at home since being discharged from the hospital after contracting coronavirus, the couple and their two children headed to London's O2 Arena for the rare night out.

During his set, Sir Elton spotted Kate and Derek and began praising them in front of the sold-out crowd and also dedicated his song, Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me to them.

The icon said: "I can't forget, the two people who I am so thrilled are here because they've both been through hell over the last two or three years are Kate Garraway and Derek and the kids," which was met with a loud round of applause.

"To say they've been through a lot recently is an understatement on a huge proportion," he said before continuing: "They've inspiring, they've never given up and I'm so thrilled they're here, I can't believe they're here.

"I want to dedicate this song to the people I mentioned before but especially to you guys," before he started playing the famous track on his grand piano.

Speaking on Smooth Radio, Kate explained that it took weeks of planning to get Derek to the concert saying: "Right up to the last minute, I wasn't sure if it would be possible to get Derek there.

"It took weeks of planning and just days before, it looked like he would be too sick to attend, even on the journey there, he seemed so weak.

"But as soon as we got into the stadium and Elton went on stage, he started weeping tears of joy, and squeezed my hand so tightly."

However, Kate has since revealed that Derek had been back in hospital after their outing, admitting that they were on a "long road" but Sir Elton and his husband David Furnish have the family a moment they will "never forget".

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the news anchor said: "Derek was crying, Darcey was crying. It was amazing and he's been so kind since, phenomenal.

"And, we actually got to meet, we didn't think we'd be able to connect them up but he was brilliant, he rushed off stage just as we were trying to get Derek out and Derek and Elton met, both of them were in tears, we all were."
