It’s 8am on Boxing Day. Ahead of you are hours filled with turkey leftovers and arguments about whether to watch the new Agatha Christie series or Russell Howard’s A Gert Lush Christmas. Before all that, though, enjoy a bit of motorik me-time with this all-new Coral tune!

Chasing the Tail of a Dream is taken from the Hoylake five-piece’s new album, Distance Inbetween, their first collection of original material since 2010. Citing the novels of Richard Yates, the comics of Alan Moore, 1980s toys, the sound of krautrock compilations, Muddy Waters’ Electric Mud and Gregory Crewdson’s darkly beautiful photography as inspirations, the record is also dedicated to Alan Wills, the Coral’s early mentor and Deltasonic label boss, who died in 2014.

This swaggering psyche-rock track finds frontman James Skelly “stepping through the mirror to the past” while guitar solos snarl and moody rhythms rumble beneath him. A limited edition 7in of the track, numbered and signed by the band and backed with new track Unforgiven, is available from the thecoral.co.uk, where you can to also pre-order Distance Inbetween. Before then, take a look at the video and let us know what you make of the group’s return.
