THIS is one of the most innovative and sustainable campervans available anywhere in the world – and it was launched by a Scottish company this week.
CampervanCo’s Ford Transit Custom Evolution Eco Camper uses pioneering hybrid technology that delivers up to 26 miles on zero-emission, electric charge.
It was unveiled at the hugely important Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show in Birmingham earlier this week.
The machine, which the Stirlingshire firm will build to bespoke specifications, also has a 1.0-litre EcoBoost range-extender petrol engine – removing range anxiety during longer trips.
The Ford Evolution Eco Camper, priced from about £76,000, is the Denny-based company’s lightest and lowest carbon-emitting campervan to date.
In addition to using the latest powertrain technology, it is fitted with high-end leisure facilities including modular, lightweight kitchen units, enhanced insulation for improved climate control and elevating roof and lift-up bed space suitable for two adults.
With ample room to sleep four people, the extensive options list includes swivel front seats to cater for up to six people to be in each other’s company, a hot water dispenser, phone and tablet charging stations and wi-fi.
The featherlight features, front-wheel drive and one-speed automatic gearbox deliver a smooth drive and fuel economy of up to 91mpg in hybrid mode.
And each vehicle is fitted with 1000-watt solar panels, as well as a 3000-watt battery to provide zero-emissions cooking and lighting.
