Watch the amazing moment Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning jockey surprises young fan

For many years now, little Kian Burley has been by the nearest rail cheering on his favourite jockey Paddy Brennan.

The nine-year-old is a huge horse racing fan and has supported the Gold Cup-winning rider ever since he gave him a book and his goggles at Market Rasen.

Often heard shouting 'Go on Paddy lad', Kian is delighted when he sees the rider cross the line in front.

So The Jockey Club decided that it would be a great idea to send Brennan, 38, to his biggest supporter's school ahead of the Cheltenham Festival.

In a video on social media , which has gone viral, the jockey says: "Hi I'm Paddy Brennan, I'm in Doncaster today to surprise a very special young man with some Cheltenham Festival tickets.

"His name is Kian, he's a massive racing fan and he's been a big fan of mine for many years now."

Kian's mother Hannah tells the camera how the St Michael's CE Primary School pupil, who loves all sports and Manchester City FC, has cerebral palsy.

"He has never let anything beat him, he's always carried on and he's always carried on with a smile on his face," she says.

Kian's teachers, including Steve Poole, describe how he talks a lot about his hobby to them, such as naming the horses and jockeys he has watched up close.

Brennan, in a special assembly for pupils, is then seen giving Kian his present.

"Kian the reason I'm here today is The Jockey Club have invited you and your family (and yes you will be seeing me!) to Cheltenham for the Tuesday, VIP," he said.

"You're going to have an amazing day."

The pair embrace as the youngsters and teachers applaud the amazing gesture.

Brennan then showed them the Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup, which he won a decade ago on Imperial Commander .

He also suffered a near miss on Cue Card, who fell in The Festival feature a few years ago while chasing a £1 million bonus.

The jockey captivated the children in front of him as he revealed just how special the day in 2010 was.

"It was an amazing feeling," he said.

"You literally go by the line, look to your right and there's 80,000 people and you are just like 'yes."

Last year's winner Al Boum Photo is one of the favourites to win again this year , as the Cheltenham Festival survived coronavirus fears to go ahead as planned.
