WATCH: Texans WR Vyncint Smith hauls in touchdown catch

Houston Texans receiver Vyncint Smith had a nice touchdown catch that proves his worth to the club in his bid to make the final 53-man roster.

The pride of Limestone College caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Joe Webb Saturday night in the club’s preseason tilt with the Detroit Lions at NRG Stadium. Smith hauled in the scoring grab with 48 seconds to go until halftime.

Plays like this in preseason games are part of the “jump” that he must make, according to coach Bill O’Brien.

“I think he’s got to take a jump, and he’s done that in practice,” O’Brien said on July 29. “We’ll see how he does in the games, but he’s become a better route runner. He knows our system better, and it’s all about just being consistent with Vyncint, coming out here every single day and trying to get better from where he was the previous day. I think he had a good day today, which was good to see. I think he’s a much improved player.”

A 31-yard touchdown catch demonstrates the improvement, but it is a crowded receiver room with DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller, Keke Coutee at the top and DeAndre Carter, Steven Mitchell, and undrafted Tyron Johnson in the mix.
