The Houston Texans are rolling. Up by four with 9:53 left on the clock, quarterback Deshaun Watson got the lead up to ten via one of his classic wizard-esque plays.
As Watson backed up in his pocket on second and ten, Los Angeles Chargers pass-rusher Melvin Ingram headed straight towards him like a heat-seeking missile. As Ingram would find out, Watson isn’t any normal quarterback.
Watson got out of Ingram’s sack attempt, looked downfield, had a lane to run, then as the Chargers defense played the run, connected with tight end Jordan Akins.
Akins, as it turns out, turned what it seemed to be a simple checkdown into a 53-yar touchdown scamper. The tight end followed his blocks — with wide receiver Kenny Stills acting as the lead-blocker in front — and finished his run in the endzone.
Akins’ catch turned into his second touchdown of the day. After the score, he had three receptions for 73 yards and the two six-pointers to his name. As for Watson: 24 for 33 for 340 yards and three touchdowns.
