WATCH: Texans OLB Whitney Mercilus intercepts Saints QB Drew Brees

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was picked off just five times in 2018. Even more impressive, he hasn’t thrown a red-zone interception since 2017. That changed when he faced the Houston Texans on Monday night.

Texans outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus dropped back in coverage, Brees targetted his pass his way, but it didn’t get to a Saint. Instead, Mercilus came down with his first career NFL interception.

A perfect read by the Texans linebacker. The Saints running back, Latavius Murray decides to slip his way into the endzone against Mercilus, who is more of a pass-rusher than coverage player. However, the Texans veteran read that like a book and got the chance to intercept a future Hall of Famer.

That’s one way for Mercilus to start his season. He bailed out the Texans when the Saints were driving down the field for a probable score; the lord, does, in fact, has Merci.
