Watch teen singer's sensational Clap for Carers tribute to her nurse mum

A schoolgirl singer stunned her community with a sensational garden performance in tribute to the NHS.

St Andrew's Academy pupil Hollie Robinson, 16, broke out her microphone and amp after the 8pm Clap for Carers in her Paisley street in a bid to cheer up neighbours during lockdown.

She sang a stirring rendition of Memory from Cats, followed by Lewis Capaldi hit Someone You Loved and Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive.

Hollie tells Glasgow Live her set was especially dedicated to her mother Arleen, who is a nurse at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

She said: "It's scary knowing she works on the frontline but at the same time I'm so proud of her. There are so many people going out and risking their lives just to help others. It makes me so happy because it's a hard thing to do .

"The NHS are doing an amazing job. They're trying to take care of us.

"They're continuing with their jobs, along with other key workers to help keep things moving.

"My mum says it's scary and stressful but rewarding when you see people get better at the same time. She was so emotional watching me from the doorway!"

Hollie explains her neighbour messaged her asking her to perform to lift people's spirits – and they enjoyed it so much she says she might od it next Thursday too.

"The street was packed and so many people were watching. We're quite a close-knit community and we all know each other.

"A few people shouted over that it had brightened their day.

"A lot of people are stuck inside and there's not much going for us just now. It's nice to enjoy something different and have everyone get together – standing apart, of course."

Hollie, who has been singing since she was eight-years-old, has performed at venues such as King Tuts and The Clutha and regularly busked in Buchanan Street.

She plans to study Advanced Higher Music when she goes into sixth year after the summer to help build a future career in the industry.

For now, she'll have to make do with honing her craft at home – but we're sure the neighbourhood won't mind lending her an ear from time to time as the nights get longer in the summer.

"Singing is something I've always wanted to do and I want to take it further in life. My family and friends are so supportive too. I really enjoy it."

And she has an inspiring message for people who are struggling through lockdown.

"We all need to stay positive. Stay inside, keep your distance, and just do your part in the community if you can. It's important – for the NHS and to help save lives."
