Watch: Taysom Hill, Austin Carr spark Saints comeback vs. Chargers

The New Orleans Saints made a nail-biter out of their preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers, overcoming a 17-3 deficit to keep L.A. scoreless down the stretch and steal a victory in the final minutes, winning 19-17. But it all started when there were a few minutes remaining in the third quarter, whit the Saints set up inside the Chargers’ 30-yard line.

Saints backup quarterback Taysom Hill took the snap out of the shotgun, with two receivers to his right and another to his left. The Saints ran a nice route combination to the right side that disrupted the Chargers secondary, freeing up slot receiver Austin Carr to walk untouched into the end zone. Hill made the correct read to find his open target, and hit Carr in stride. It’s everything you’d want to see out of both players.

Hill’s summer has been spent trying to prove he’s more than the most-entertaining utility player in the game; his proficiency on special teams and as a runner remains impressive, but his passing has largely been hit-or-miss. More plays like this will do a lot to build his case as a potential heir to Drew Brees.
