Watch: Stunning footage of humpback whale breaching water off the coast of Kerry

Here's the incredible moment a humpback whale breached the water metres away from an excited group of whale watchers.

The video was taken just beside the Blasket Islands in Co. Kerry by Gilly May who is an avid whale and dolphin fan.

Speaking to the Irish Daily Mirror Gilly spoke of her love for Fungie the dolphin, who is regularly spotted in the area and how excited she was to have such an encounter a humpback whale.

"I actually work in the Fungie office so i heard that there were whales out around the Blasket Islands from Dingle Sea Safari.

"My friend Alan Britten took me and a few others out every evening after work to see if we could spot anything.

"We're all Fungie obsessed but it as so amazing watching the humpbacks feeding. On one occasion we even encountered a mother showing her calf how to feed."

This is not the first time humpback whales have been spotted in Irish waters.

Not so long ago a group of researchers encountered humpback whales off the coast of Cork.
