Watch Steven Gerrard's Rangers press conference in full as 'silly question' leads to no-nonsense response

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was caught on the hop after being quizzed on why he's so certain Liverpool will beat Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Anfield icon will be tuning in to watch his former side as they head to Old Trafford to take on their fierce rivals in the Premier League fixture of the weekend.

Gerrard will be hoping Rangers and their supporters will be in fine spirits with the game kicking off after their pivotal clash with a beleaguered Hearts side at Tynecastle.

And Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows all about feeling the heat as he tries to stop Liverpool in their tracks after 17 straight league wins.

Many experts reckon the gap has never been wider between the pair and Gerrard delivered definitive answer when asked who would win the big one at Old Trafford.

He said: "Liverpool win."

But the Ibrox boss appeared exasperated when queried on where his confidence of an away win was coming from.

Gerrard added: "Are you going to continue asking me these silly questions?

"They've played eight and won eight, haven't they?

"The front three are in fantastic form, they aren't conceding many goals, they are European champions.

"Do you want any other reasons why I think Liverpool are going to beat Manchester United?

"Did you think I was going to say anything different?"

Meanwhile, Gerrard admits he cannot wait to get down to business with the club's new sporting director Ross Wilson.

The former Southampton chief was named as Mark Allen's replacement and the Ibrox boss admits it's been a tough few weeks since the Welshman's absence.

Gerrard opened up his close relationship with Allen and the excitement of forging a strong bond with his replacement.

He added: "I've had two or three really long, in-depth conversations, they will remain private.

"I am pleased the club have moved quickly to replace Mark Allen, because there was a void there.

"Mark was able to do a fantastic job and the weeks he has been missing I have certainly felt a void.

"Mark was a rock for me who I bounced off every single day.

"I have to give the club credit for a finding replacement and I am really looking forward to working with Ross.

"We can't wait to start the relationship (with Ross)."
