Watch Steven Gerrard's Rangers press conference in full as Ibrox boss looks to cut out 'individual errors'

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard insists the Ibrox side need to cut out defensive errors if they are to lift the Betfred Cup.

Gerrard reckons it was individual mistakes that cost his side in the 2-0 defeat to Celtic at Ibrox back in September.

Connor Goldson made a massive blunder for Odsonne Edouard's opener and Rangers struggled to get into the game after that.

And with Sunday's final the first meeting of the two sides since, Gerrard knows they can't afford to do similar.

He said: "Avoid making individual mistakes. I think against this level of opposition it's important we defend well and have a good structure about ourselves.

"Celtic were given a big advantage in the game by us making a mistake and handing that to them so we certainly need to avoid doing that.

"As a team we have to handle it if people decide to go direct, we have to handle it on the day and deal with it better. That's across the board and not just on Sunday but if you are to win an Old Firm in a Cup Final you need to be good defensively.

"You have to be organised and you're relying on the leaders in your team and defenders to get the one on ones right, be in the right position at the right time and keep their threats in the forward areas be as quiet as possible.

"We've also been keeping clean sheets as well. We're playing at a level where we are playing against fantastic players. We're not always going to get it perfect, we are humans. Celtic's game on Wednesday night could have been ever so different if it wasn't for the last minute.

"We're talking about human beings, not robots. you can't expect to be perfect all the time in every game but one thing is for sure, for us to get the outcome we want in this game I'm going to need a very good performance.

"My experience of finals is you need your big players to do well across the board. The level and the opposition you're playing against you can't afford to carry anyone."
