Watch Sir Alex Ferguson pay tribute to Notts County's greatest ever manager Jimmy Sirrel

The former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has paid a glowing tribute to Notts County legend Jimmy Sirrel.

The legendary Old Trafford icon was good friends with Sirrel who is regarded as the Magpies' best manager of all time having guided the club from Division Four to the top flight.

Sirrel was appointed on November 8 in 1969 and to mark the anniversary, Ferguson recorded a tribute to his fellow Scot on the 50th anniversary of his appointment.

Sir Alex had been invited to attend a special dinner last night to toast Sirrel's achievements that also saw legendary striker Les Bradd also inducted into the Magpies' hall of fame.

But after suffering a brain haemorrhage last year, Ferguson has been advised to limit the the number of public appearances.

Instead, he recorded a video in which he remembers his friends and his qualities.
