You have seen it before and you will almost certainly see it again: an article claiming the Boston Celtics need to trade veteran point guard Marcus Smart. They pop up when the team is doing well, and even more often when it struggles. At the end of the day, the most relevant thing to ask is whether such a proposal makes any sense at all.
There are absolutely situations where dealing the Flower Mound native would make sense — virtually no player in the NBA is truly untouchable after all — but in the non-hypothetical present of the Celtics, would trading Smart make sense for Boston’s title designs?
