Watch: Shocking CCTV video shows van being petrol bombed before suspect flees into the night

A man has shared shocking video footage of his work van being petrol bombed.

Andrew Mcginlay shared the CCTV footage along with pictures of the aftermath online yesterday.

The video shows a hooded figure approach Mr Mcginlay’s van shortly after midnight on the morning of Tuesday (July 7).

The man can be seen to put something through the window of the van, which was parked near to the James Miller Convenience Store on Langton Avenue in East Calder.

Mr Mcginlay posted pictures on Facebook at 1.20 am on Tuesday morning showing firefighters tackling the blaze in his van saying “Just got woke up by a neighbour saying my van was on fire."

At the time he said officers didn’t know if it was an electrical fault or a deliberate attack.

Later on Tuesday Mr Mcginlay shared the CCTV video saying: “So the van was petrol bombed by the looks of it.”

Mr Mcginlay confirmed it was his work van and expressed his disbelief about what had happened, saying: “I barely know anyone in East Calder. I go to work and spend time with my family.

Mr Mcginlay shared pictures of the utter devastation the following day, confirming he used the van for work (Facebook / Andrew Mcginlay)

“I don't really know why anyone would do this. We don't bother anyone.”

The video, shared on the Mid and East Calder Community community Facebook page, drew dozens of comments and reactions from locals.

"Indications are the vehicle was deliberately set on fire and enquiries are continuing."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Around 1:20 am on Tuesday, 7 July, 2020, police received a report a vehicle had been set on fire in Langton Avenue, East Calder.
