Watch shocking CCTV of the moment a man sets fire to a car in County Durham

This is the shocking moment a man is caught on CCTV setting fire to a car.

An investigation is under way after the incident in Trimdon Station, County Durham, in the early hours on Sunday morning.

Four cars in total were torched around Prospect Place and Commercial Street and pictures taken at the scene show the damage left behind.

Emergency services were called to the area just after 1am and fire crews put out the blazes with hose reels.

CCTV cameras captured a man in dark clothing approaching one vehicle and setting fire to it.

Police attended the scene and an investigation is under way but a spokesman for Durham Constabulary could not comment any further.

A spokesman for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: "We got the call at 1.02am. Four private motor vehicles were on fire.

"There was also damage to some windows and a door at a property nearby.

"There were no casualties involved.

"There was a fire engine from Peterlee and one from Wheatley Hill in attendance. Hose reels were used by the crews.

"Police were in attendance. The last appliance left the scene at 1.56am."
