Watch Shakespeare at sunset in Calderstones Park this summer

Calderstones Park will be the setting for a series of Shakespeare plays this summer.

The Reader will bring Shakespeare Globe on Tour to the much-loved Liverpool park this June.

There will be a programme of four outdoor performances over three days and the plays that will be staged are: A Midsummer Night’s DreamAs You Like It and The Tempest.

Following the traditions of an Elizabethan theatre ensemble, the tour will involve a small group of actors who have learnt all of Shakespeare’s plays.

The ensemble will have performed them for the Globe audience, and will then leave London to set out on the road with the plays.

As a tradition, the choice of play will be put into the hands of the audience who will be asked which play they want to see.

The performances will be the first to take place in the Garden Theatre since the Calderstones Mansion House reopened in September 2019, following a £5 million refurbishment.

Founder and Director Jane Davis said: “Shakespeare has been bringing people together at The Reader since our first ever Shared Reading group started nearly two decades ago in Birkenhead.
