Watch Scots van driver attempt to drive through 3ft flooding after ignoring closed road sign

This is the moment a Scots motorist almost lost his vehicle in extreme flooding after ignoring closed road signs.

The hapless driver was filmed struggling along a road from Blairgowrie to Coupar Angus this morning much to the amusement of onlookers.

Local Kenny Grant, 63, caught the whole incident after he spotted the white truck attempting to navigate the “three foot deep” waters.

As the clip begins, the vehicle is seen motoring along the badly flooded country road.

As the motorist charges onwards huge sprays of water gush from either side almost reaching the driver’s window.

Suddenly, the water level deepens and the truck plunges even further into the water.

The splash reaches the windshield and the vehicle is forced to slow down to negotiate the torrent.

All the while, Kenny can be heard exclaiming in disbelief at the scene.

The van plods on slowly and eventually reaches the end of the road where the water becomes shallower.

It eventually struggles out and makes it to dry land before coming to a stop as the video ends.

Despite his disbelief, Kenny revealed the blundering motorist was not the only one who attempted the treacherous journey.

He said: “Yesterday a car was submerged up to the bonnet and was abandoned.

“I’m there just now and another van has attempted it and got through.

“It’s turned into a spectator sport for locals.

“There must be about 50 folk on the hill opposite most with mobiles aloft waiting for the next one to try.

“Several cars are going through the signs then turning back at the last minute to the obvious disappointment of the spectators.”

He revealed the truck seemed to be “spluttering a bit” after its attempt.

Kenny added: “I was just thinking about stupid he was, especially since there are ‘road closed’ signs at both ends.

“It must be three foot deep.

“It floods a couple of times a year and there’s always a few who take the risk.”

Social media users have been left stunned by the footage.

One user wrote: "Clearly thinks he’s driving a boat not a van then."

Another added: "I had a fiver on his engine breathing in water."

One person joked: "I hope that's not my Morrisons shopping."

While another fumed: "They never learn do they, flipping idiots."
