Watch Scots granny's adorable reaction to Andy Murray's US Open win

A Scots granny's reaction to Andy Murray's battling US Open win has gone viral.

May Denoon, from Elgin was delighted to see the Scottish tennis ace return to form with a gritty, comeback victory against Yoshihito Nishioka on Tuesday.

Murray lost the first two sets and even faced a match point against him during the battle with the Japanese star before coming through 4-6 4-6 7-6(5) 7-6(4) 6-4 in four hours and 40 minutes.

It was the Scots 10th career comeback win from two-sets down but marked the first time he has achieved the feat since 2016.

The 85-year-old, who underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumour on her bowel six weeks ago, watched the match with bated breath from her living-room chair.

The tennis fan's granddaughter Sarah Fiske could see how excited her gran was and decided to record her cheering the champ on for all to see.

Sarah, 24, said: "She's a huge Andy Murray fan and loves watching him play.

"We watch all of his matches together. We went to the Davis Cup in Glasgow five years ago for her 80th birthday and ended up sitting next to Andy's family. His gran was sharing her shortbread with us.

"It was such a special day.

The video, which Sarah uploaded to Twitter, has since been watched by almost 100,000 people, with Judy Murray praising the pensioner and Andy himself liking the Tweet.

Andy's mum commented: "Love it Sarah. Say hello from me."

Sarah added: "I told her how popular the video has been and she is overwhelmed.

"She just keeps saying 'I'm 85 and I've just got famous. She's loving it."

May was diagnosed with bowel cancer last November.

She underwent intense radio therapy before having her operation in July.

During surgery she suffered a stroke which resulted in her losing her eyesight for two days.

Despite the complications, May received news last week that her surgery had been successful and she was now cancer free.

Sarah added: "Thankfully it's coming back now but she's still having her struggles.

"Watching TV has been a strain for her, however she was desperate to watch him play. She thought she was only going to be able to last an hour but four and a half hours later she was still watching.

"We were so happy she got to see it all."
