Watch Scots aces turn up the heat in track action

SCOTS racers took to the track on home soil in force last weekend – and they will be scattered far and wide for action over the next few days.

Fife’s famous Knockhill circuit was the focus of attention for Scottish Motor Club Racing (SMRC) and Super Lap Scotland (SLS) action on Saturday and Sunday past.

But attention will now turn to Le Mans in France, the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and associated series at Thruxton and the British GT at Donington Park.

More than 70 cars took part in eight races for four classes of the SMRC last Saturday, with defending Cooper Cup champion Robbie Dalgleish taking two hard-fought wins.

Big grids with a terrific variety of machines saw two different winners in the Classic Sports and Saloon races – Andrew Smith in his Morgan Plus 8 and John Kinmond in his V8 Rover SD1.

Dave Colville enjoyed a double victory in the Fiesta ST Cup, while action-packed racing saw Ross Dunn and Colin Main top the podium in the Citroen C1 Cup contests.

Then on Sunday, more than 30 drivers also competed in Round 4 of the fast and furious SLS at the circuit.

There were fine class wins for Matthew Lawson (Pro), Robbie Wyper (B) and Francis Simpson (C). David Reid (D), Sean Martin (E), Sean Hislop (F) and guest Hamish Kinloch (G) also came out tops.

A separate Legends series saw Stewart Black win the final by more than 10 seconds, while Seb Melrose won two Formula Ford races and ModSports contestants also took to the circuit.

Meanwhile, down at Brands Hatch, Scots Chris Cherry and Ben Robinson both topped the podium in the Club Pro class at the Time Attack Championship meeting.

The highlight of this weekend will be the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with Paul Di Resta featuring in the LMP2 class and Jonny Adam in the GTE Am category. Colin Noble will compete in the supporting Road to Le Mans event.

The BTCC sees third-placed Rory Butcher and fellow Scot Aiden Moffat head to Hampshire. Ross Wylie will run in the Porsche Carrera Cup.

And Sandy Mitchell will look to extend his lead in the British GT Championship in a three-hour race in Leicestershire, which features a number of other Scots.
