The gunman first shot and killed his grandparents at their home before opening fire at the school.
The student fired 26 rounds, while another 34 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene, according to a police statement.
Videos from the scene showed students ducking under their desks as gunshots could be heard in the background.
