WATCH: San Diego Padres hire Rangers’ Jayce Tingler as manager

The San Diego Padres have found their next manager in current Texas Rangers major league player development field coordinator Jayce Tingler.

ESPN’s Jeff Pasan reported Thursday that the Padres hired Tingler, who is also currently the manager of the Rangers’ Dominican winter league team.

Tingler played four years as a minor league player after being drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2003 out of college. When his playing career ended, the now-38-year-old began working his way through the Rangers organization in a variety of roles including managing in the Dominican summer league, working in the Rangers minor league system, and spending time as assistant GM.

Padres general manager AJ Preller has ties to Tingler as Preller was the assistant GM with the Rangers before being hired by San Diego in 2014.

The Padres fired Andy Green after four seasons as manager on Sept. 21.
