Every draft prospect dreams of getting the phone call that will forever change their lives: the phone call where they learn that they’ve achieved their dream of making it to the NFL.
Friday night, Iowa State running back David Montgomery got that call.
The Chicago Bears traded up 14 spots in the third round to select Montgomery with the 73rd overall pick, once again showing general manager Ryan Pace’s conviction when it comes to getting the guys he wants.
“I told you this was going to happen,” Pace told Montgomery.
One person that has to be thrilled with the addition of Montgomery is Nagy, who has already been discussing with his offensive staff all of the different ways they can use him in this offense.
“We’re so excited to get you here,” Nagy told Montgomery. “It’s going to be awesome. We’re proud of you, we’re happy for you, you’ve got to enjoy the moment. It’s here, man. It’s go time.”
Montgomery joins a Bears running backs room that consists of Tarik Cohen and Mike Davis, who should all complement each other.
