Watch Ronny Deila erupt as former Celtic star Gary Mackay-Steven poleaxed by knee-high horror lunge

Former Celtic boss Ronny Deila was left raging by a crunching tackle on Gary Mackay-Steven during New York City's win over San Carlos.

The Scots winger was flattened by a reckless lunge in the final stages of his side's 1-0 CONCACAF Champions League success on Wednesday night.

Defender Pablo Arboine wiped Mackay-Steven out as he skipped down the line and Deila immediately leapt to his player's defence.

The Norwegian was booked for a one-handed push on the San Carlos player as a touchline fracas broke out.

Incredibly, Arboine escaped a sending off.

After the referee regained controlling of the players, he flashed only a yellow at the Costa-Rican.

Deila was appointed NYC boss in January, replacing former Rangers star Giovanni van Bronckhorst at the helm.

Mackay-Steven joined the club on a free transfer in June 2019 after his Aberdeen contract expired.

The pair previously worked together at Celtic from 2014-2016.
