Watch RNLI heroes rescuing three fishermen near Roker Pier

RNLI Sunderland Lifeboat Station released nailbiting footage of their teams rescuing three men after their boat capsized near Roker Pier.

The heroic effort captured by RNLI volunteers attending the scene and immediately helping the three men on to their lifeboat.

The incident took place at 2pm on Saturday, September, 19 after the Sunderland Coastguard received a call from a fisherman on the pier.

The coastguard informed the charity of the incident where they immediately launched lifeboats to attend the scene.

Once the three men were safely on the lifeboats, they were given emergency care on the way back to Sunderland Marina.

The three men were handed over to the care of the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS).

A NEAS spokesperson said: “We were called at 14:11 on Saturday to concerns for three people rescued from the water in Roker.

"We sent two ambulances and took the men to Sunderland Royal Hospital.”

In any coastal emergency, please dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard
