WATCH: Richard Sherman hopes new ‘Fair Pay to Play’ law destroys NCAA

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman hopes California’s new “Fair Pay to Play” law, signed on Monday by Gov. Gavin Newsom, creates a domino effect that puts an end to the NCAA.

He told the San Jose Mercury News this week: “I hope it destroys the NCAA in general because I think it’s corrupt and it’s a bunch of people taking advantage of kids, and doing it under a mask of ‘fair play.'”

The law, which goes into effect in 2023, will allow college athletes in California to more easily profit off their own name, image and likeness, which college athletes cannot do currently under the NCAA’s amateurism model. The law also will allow student-athletes to hire an agent to help them find business deals on their behalf.

Several other states have introduced their own fair pay bills or have shared their intent to do so lately, including South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Florida, and New York.

FTW Explains: What does this California college athletics bill actually mean?
