Watch referee Geoff Eltringham conduct Nottingham Forest vs Reading pitch inspection

This is the moment referee Geoff Eltringham decided to postpone Nottingham Forest’s Championship clash with Reading.

After a deluge of overnight rain in Nottingham, the Football League referee opted to deem the City Ground playing surface unplayable due to excess waterlogging.

Puddles of water were visible in the corners of the pitch, as well as the surrounding areas and Eltringham conducted a pitch inspection at midday, but given the sodden nature of the pitch, he opted to call the encounter off.

It’s not the first time in recent times that the Reds have seen a game postponed due to heavy rain, with their clash against Barnsley on Easter Monday last year falling victim to similar weather conditions.

The game, which was set to be played in front of a near full-house at the City Ground, has yet to be rearrange - Forest are next in action in front of a sell-out crowd at Luton Town next weekend, before Derby County visit Trentside in two weeks - with tickets all snapped up.

Here’s the moment Eltringham took to the pitch to assess the playing conditions as captured by Sky Sports News.
